Intermediate Ballroom Class Beginning in November

We will begin a new session of classes at the Intermediate Level on November 24th at 7:30. These classes will feature Samba and Paso Doble.
Samba is the national dance of Brazil. It was first introduced in 1917, but was not accepted as a ballroom dance until 1930. Carmen Miranda is credited with introducing Samba to the US in 1939. Samba is danced in 2/4 time with the American Style having more "bounce" than International Style Samba. American Style Samba is also danced to a faster tempo than its international counterpart. We will feature more of the International Style Samba in this class.
Paso Doble is derived from Flamenco dancing and is a theatrical, dramatic Spanish dance where the man portrays a matador and the lady portrays the cape. It is arrogant yet passionate, and the music provides a marching type beat of 60 to 62 measures per minute.
In preparation for the upcoming holiday dances, a brief period will be allocated to polishing the students' social dance skills.
There is a prerequisite for the Intermediate Ballroom class so check the catalog or online course description carefully before enrolling.
We are looking forward to the passion, drama, and fun these dances provide. Be sure to enroll early to reserve your place in the class.
